In December of 2006, co-founders Cheryle and Lauren Podgorski started Princess & The Prom after reading about a similar organization in San Francisco called the Princess Project. Lauren, a high school student, and her mother, Cheryle, enlisted the help of 5 more mother/daughter teams, along with a sponsorship from Granby Memorial High School in Granby, CT.
The organizers had a dream that every girl would be able to feel like a princess on the night of their prom. And so it all began...dresses were collected, a venue was selected and the First Annual Gown Giveaway event took place on March 31st, 2007. Over 100 girls received free prom dresses that day, and Princess & the Prom is looking forward to helping even more girls in 2008.
